Become an informed consumer – know what you are looking at in the way of technology. Visit newegg.com to get an idea of what the good stuff is. There are truly good deals out there, for stuff that is not but 6 mo. – 1 year old , then there is also a bunch of stuff out there that dealers are trying to pawn off as good. Educate yourself and you won’t get taken.

Don’t fall for Retail Sales. Bad mistake. If you’re looking for a good laptop, shop online. Cost vs. performance, my choice is always an Acer laptop. For $ 600 you can get a really good machine. For $ 1000, you can get a GREAT machine. Look at http://www.newegg.com and see what they have to offer.

    Look for –

Dual Core CPU (either Intel or AMD)
    1GB Ram minimum
    80GB hard drive minimum
    DVD+/-RW drive
ATI or Nvidia graphics (don’t go with Intel – love intel products, but their graphics processing hardware sucks)
Windows XP or Vista (your choice, XP will perform “faster”)

In the end, get the best warranty you can get on a laptop – they’re bound to get broken and extremely expensive to fix….get the best warranty you can, it’s worth every penny.

    Hope that helps.
